Exercise your right to VOTE and seek CHANGE!

I’m trying something new starting this month that I think will become a ritual. Every month, I’ll be trying a new wine (since I love wine so much) and I’ll share it with you guys. This month I splurged a little more than I normally would since September was my birthday month. I purchased a 2017 Cakebread Cellars Pinot Noir. This wine has a smooth finish with silky tannins, mineral notes, and lingering fresh fruit of raspberry and strawberry flavors. The going price for this wine is $69.99. Trust me… I normally keep my wine budget between $19-$25. This was a “treat yourself” moment #cheers.

As I continue to educate myself more about Black History, I plan to incorporate short historical facts about black culture every month with my blog posts. This month is about a courageous woman by the name of Rebecca Crumpler. Rebecca was the first African-American Woman Physician in the United States. She worked for the Freedman’s Bureau in the State of Virginia which was the federal agency charged with helping more than 4,000,000 slaves make their transition from slavery to emancipation. Rebecca was apart of the long fight to keep African-Americans healthy during one of the earliest times of oppression and continues to be an inspiration for many of us who face adversity in the world we live in today. Thank you for everything Rebecca.

REGISTER TO VOTE It’s imperative that we all exercise our right to vote! Those before us fought for us to have this opportunity. If you’re not sure if you’re registered, please check here. Registration deadlines vary by state. Check your deadline here. Remember, it’s very important to know your Presidential Candidate’s AND Local Official’s viewpoints on issues we are facing. So take a break from TikTok and Instagram Reels to do some research. Thank me later.

PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE This election’s first Presidential Debate will take place on Tuesday, September 29th at 8PM CST. Tune in to see what each candidate’s stance is on issues such as Racial Equality, Healthcare, Climate Change, COVID-19, etc. There will be a second Presidential Debate on Thursday, October 15th and the last debate taking place on Thursday, October 22nd. The VPs will have their chance to speak on those same topics on Wednesday, October 7th.

BREONNA TAYLOR On Wednesday, September 23rd the verdict was released that not three but one officer was charged with “wanton endangerment” for firing into a neighboring apartment, but not directly for the death of Breonna Taylor. The world is disheartened by this decision. This verdict has identified how much work our justice system needs. It also identifies how important it is to understand who we put into positions of power. We are all praying for Breonna Taylor and her loved ones. We’re sorry our system has let you down.

STOCK MARKET As of September 24th’s close, the S&P 500 sunk roughly 9.3% below its record high. Gains on Friday, September 25th pushed it away from the 10% decline which would’ve produced a correction. According to investopedia.com, a correction is a decline of 10% or more in the price of a security from its most recent peak. Corrections can happen to individual assets, like an individual stock or bond, or to an index measuring a group of assets.  Part of this correction comes from pessimism regarding economic recovery and stimulus relief. If you’re a long-term investor like myself- it’s important not to realize your losses by selling your positions. Corrections are healthy for the market and investors. Corrections help readjust asset valuations that may have become unsustainably high. So hang in there… you’ll reap the benefits.

NATIONAL SAVINGS DAY takes place on Monday, October 12th. This day recognizes the value in saving and the simple steps to get started. Due to the Global Pandemic, interest rates have dropped to near zero levels causing the money in our savings to earn vastly less than what we used to earn. “According to the FDIC, the national average interest rate on savings accounts currently stands at 0.05% APY. This applies to both average and jumbo deposits (balances over $100,000)” - smart asset.com. If you’re new to saving, I’d highly suggest opening a saving account with an online bank. Brick and Mortar banks tend to offer lower interest rates. Here’s a link to the online savings account that I currently use outside of my brokerage account. This pandemic has made many individuals realize how important it is to have a nest egg. If you can afford to, consider opening a savings and start small. It’s always a good idea to save.

RUTH BADER GINSBURG Words can’t express how much women owe you. We thank you for dedicating your life to the fight against gender discrimination. You were intelligent, resilient, and an influential figure for women’s rights. You literally fought to the death and I pray for an ounce of your strength. This year has been filled with many deaths, but yours was very hard to cope with. We thank you for all you have accomplished for women.
